HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss senior forward Daveon Boardingham garnered selection as the Conference USA men's basketball Player of the Week based on voting from a media panel covering the 16 league schools and released Monday afternoon.
This is the fourth Player of the Week award for Southern Miss this year, and second straight, as Michael Craig, Neil Watson and Aaron Brown earned it earlier this season. It is also the first time in school history that the Golden Eagles have earned it four times in one season.
Boardingham led Southern Miss to a 2-0 record this week. He averaged 19.0 points and 8.0 rebounds. He also connected on 52.4-percent (11-of-21) from the floor and 76.2-percent from the line (16-of-21).
Boardingham began the week by scoring 14 points and grabbing eight rebounds in a 78-66 win against FIU. He was 5-of-11 from the field, including 4-of-6 from the charity stripe.
The senior followed that up with a career game in leading the Golden Eagles to a 60-49 victory at Florida Atlantic. He scored a career-high 24 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including 15 in the second half. He also pulled down eight rebounds. He was also 12-of-15 from the free throw line. After Florida Atlantic pulled to within three points with five minutes to play, the Newark, N.J., native scored five points and grabbed two rebounds to clinch the victory and keep the Golden Eagles in a tie for first-place in Conference USA.
East Carolina's Caleb White was named C-USA Freshman of the Week.
