Golden Eagles Host Tulane on Senior Day

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's basketball team will host Tulane in its final home regular season game this Tuesday, March 2. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
Southern Miss and Tulane will meet for the 70th time, with the Green Wave holding a 40-29 advantage. However, the Golden Eagles have won four of the last five games. In games played in Hattiesburg, Southern Miss holds a 16-15 record. Earlier this year, Southern Miss defeated the Green Wave in New Orleans, 58-40.
Southern Miss enters Tuesday night's game with a 16-12 record and 6-8 in Conference USA. The Golden Eagles have lost four of their last six games after falling at Memphis, 76-69, on Saturday.
Junior guard R.L. Horton led Southern Miss with a season-high 24 points, including a career-high five three-pointers. Junior forward Josimar Ayarza scored 14 points while junior forward Gary Flowers recorded his seventh double-double, scoring 13 points and pulling down 13 rebounds.
Flowers is in tenth-place in Conference USA with 14.8 points. He is also tenth in field goal percentage, connecting on 47.7-percent of his shots, seventh in rebounding with 8.0 boards per game and fourth in blocks (1.8).
Johnson is second on the team with 9.7 points per game. He is also third in the league in free throw percentage, connecting on 82.1 percent of his shots from the charity stripe. Bolden is scoring 9.1 points, while junior guard R.L. Horton is also contributing 8.9 points.
As a team, Southern Miss is scoring 65.0 points per game, while allowing 60.0, tops in the conference. The Golden Eagles are third in the conference in rebounding, pulling down 37.4 boards per game while giving up just 30.7 to the opposition, which is second in the conference. The Black and Gold are connecting on 42.4-percent of their shots, while their opponents are hitting just 40.3-percent. Southern Miss also leads the league in three-point percentage defense, as opponents are hitting just 29.8-percent from beyond the arc.
Head coach Larry Eustachy is in his sixth season at the helm of the Southern Miss men's basketball program. He has compiled a 91-92 (.497) record during his time as head coach. In 18 years, Eustachy has an overall record of 351-237 (.597).
Tulane enters Tuesday night's contest with a 7-20 record. They are 2-12 in conference and have lost their last six games after falling, 76-55 at UAB last Saturday.
Freshman guard Kendall Timmons led the team with 13 points and a game-high six rebounds, while senior guard Kevin Sims added 12 points and three steals.
Junior guard Kris Richard is leads the team with 12.2 points. He is also sixth in the league in steals with 1.8 per game. Sims is second on the team with 11.7 points. Senior forward Asim McQueen leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 4.5 boards per game.
As a team, the Green Wave are averaging 62.3 points per game while allowing 66.9. Tulane is grabbing 30.2 rebounds per game, while giving up 36.2. TU is connecting on just 39.7-percent of its shots while allowing the opposition to score 46.3-percent of the time. Head coach Dave Dickerson is in his fifth season leading the Tulane men's basketball program. He currently holds a 67-82 (.450) record.
