HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss junior guard Aaron Brown garnered selection as the Conference USA men's basketball Player of the Week based on voting from a media panel covering the 16 league schools and released Monday afternoon.
This is the third Player of the Week award for Southern Miss this year, as Michael Craig and Neil Watson earned it earlier this season. It is also the second time in school history that the Golden Eagles have earned it three times in one season.
Brown led Southern Miss to a 2-0 record this week. He averaged 19.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals. He also connected on 60.0-percent (12-of-20) from the floor, 54.5-percent from three (6-of-11) and 75.0-percent from the line (9-of-12).
Brown began the week by scoring 15 points in an 85-56 win against UTSA. He was 5-of-7 from the field, including 1-of-2 from behind the arc. He was also 4-of-5 from the charity stripe while adding three assists.
The junior followed that up with a career game in leading the Golden Eagles to a 77-68 victory over then-Conference USA leader UTEP. He scored a career-high 24 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including hitting a career-best five three-pointers in leading Southern Miss back from a 12-point deficit. The Hackensack, N.J., native also grabbed a career-high nine rebounds.
UTEP Vince Hunter was named C-USA Freshman of the Week.
