HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss senior forward Gary Flowers garnered selection as the Conference USA men's basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season based on voting from a media panel covering the 12 league schools and released Monday afternoon.
Flowers, a Dallas, Texas native, averaged 21. points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.0 assists during the week in helping lead the Golden Eagles to two conference victories
In Wednesday's win at UAB, Flowers' jumper with 23 seconds remaining gave Southern Miss the winning margin, capping off a 14 point second half. The Dallas, Texas native finished with 22 points, five rebounds, two assists and two blocks to give the Golden Eagles just their fourth win in Birmingham in 17 tries.
He then capped off his week against Marshall by recording his fifth double-double of the season, scoring 20 points and pulling down 12 rebounds while also blocking two shots to help Southern Miss to a 67-60 victory and its best start in Conference USA history.
Flowers currently leads Conference USA in scoring with 20.2 points per game, is fourth in blocks (1.7) and fifth in three-point field goal percentage (.430).
Marshall's DeAndre Kane was named the C-USA Freshman of the Week.
