Southern Miss Ends Road Trip at UAB
Golden Eagles look for first win in conference play.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's basketball team ends its two-game road trip when it travels to Birmingham, Ala. for a game with UAB on Wednesday, Jan. 20. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. CT and will be televised on CSS.
Southern Miss and UAB will meet for the 32nd time, with the Blazers holding a 20-11 advantage. In Birmingham, UAB holds an 11-3 advantage. Last year, the Blazers took all three meetings, including a 74-73, overtime victory in the Quarterfinals of the Conference USA Championship.
Southern Miss enters Wednesday night's game with a 10-7 record and 0-3 in Conference USA after falling at UTEP, 56-49, last Saturday at the Don Haskins Center.
Junior forward Gary Flowers led all scorers with 17 points, while also pulling down six rebounds and picking off a game-high three steals. Senior guard Buchi Awaji had 10 points and three steals, and junior guard R.L. Horton tied a career-high with six assists.
Flowers currently leads the team with 14.3 points. He is ninth in Conference USA in field goal percentage, connecting on 50.2-percent of his shots, sixth in rebounding with 7.9 boards per game and fourth in blocks (1.9).
Bolden is second on the team with 11.4 points per game and 6.8 rebounds. He is also fifth in the league in free throw percentage, hitting 81.8-percent from the line. Sophomore guard Angelo Johnson is scoring 9.4 points, while junior guard R.L. Horton is also contributing 8.7 points.
As a team, Southern Miss is scoring 68.3 points per game, while allowing 62.4. The Golden Eagles are third in the conference in rebounding, pulling down 38.9 boards per game, while giving up just 31.9 to the opposition. The Black and Gold are connecting on 43.5-percent of their shots, while their opponents are hitting just 39.8-percent.
Head coach Larry Eustachy is in his sixth season at the helm of the Southern Miss men's basketball program. He has compiled an 85-87 (.492) record during his time as head coach. In 18 years, Eustachy has an overall record of 345-232 (.598).
UAB enters Wednesday night's contest with a 15-2 record. They are 3-0 in conference and have won their last four games after coming back from 24 points down to defeat SMU, 63-62.
Junior guard Elijah Millsap recorded his league-leading 10th double-double of the season, recording 20 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Senior guard George Drake scored 14 points and seven rebounds, while junior guard Aaron Johnson added eight points and eight assists.
Millsap is tied for third in C-USA with 17.3 points and a league-best 9.9 rebounds. Senior forward Howard Crawford is second on the team with 12.4 points and 4.7 rebounds. Junior guard Jamarr Sanders is averaging 10.6 points and 4.7 points, while Johnson is fourth in the conference with 4.4 assists.
As a team, the Blazers are averaging 69.9 points per game while allowing 59.6, second in C-USA. UAB is grabbing 37.5 rebounds per game, while giving up 29.9, also second in the conference. UAB is connecting on 44.0-percent of its shots while allowing the opposition to score 30.9-percent of the time.
Head coach Mike Davis is in his fourth season leading the UAB men's basketball program. He currently holds a 75-41 (.647) record. In 10 years, Davis is 190-120 (.613).
