Men's Basketball Takes to the Road for the First Time at UAB
Golden Eagles look for third straight win over UAB.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss will take to the road for the first time in conference play. The Golden Eagles look to build on Saturday's victory over Tulane this Wednesday when they travel to UAB for a 7:00 p.m. (CT) at Bartow Arena. The game will be broadcast on CSS.
This will be the 27th meeting between the two schools in a series that dates back to 1979. The Blazers (11-5, 1-0 C-USA) lead the series, 16-10, and have won six of the last nine meetings. In games played in Birmingham, UAB holds a 10-3 advantage. Last year, Southern Miss swept the season series, defeating the Blazers, 57-55, in overtime in Birmingham, before taking a 76-68 victory in Hattiesburg.
Southern Miss (9-7, 1-1 C-USA) is led by guard Jeremy Wise. The sophomore leads the team in scoring with 18.8 points per game. Right behind him is freshman R.L. Horton with 12.7, junior Courtney Beasley with 10.9 and sophomore Sai'Quon Stone at 7.9. Gjio Bain leads Southern Miss on the boards, pulling down 7.5 rebounds a game.
Southern Miss is coming off a 71-54 victory over Tulane last Saturday, snapping a four-game losing streak. Despite falling behind 12-4 early, the Golden Eagles closed the first half on a 29-8 run. The Green Wave never got within double-digits the rest of the game. Jeremy Wise led Southern Miss with 23 points, five assists and a career-high seven rebounds. Courtney Beasley added 19 points for the Golden Eagles.
UAB enters today's game with an 11-5 record, 1-0 in the conference. The Blazers are led by forward Robert Vaden. The junior currently leads the team with 20.4 points per game while averaging 3.3 rebounds. Junior forward Lawrence Kinnard is averaging 9.7 points and is second on the team with 6.4 rebounds. Reggie Huffman leads the team with 6.8 rebounds.
UAB is coming off a 62-61 last minute victory over Tulane. Ed Berrios hit three free throws with 1.6 seconds remaining to give the Blazers the win. UAB was led by Kinnard and Vaden with 16 points apiece.
Southern Miss continues its road trip this weekend. The Golden Eagles will take to Memphis, Tenn. to face second-ranked Memphis on Saturday, January 19, at 8:00 p.m. at FedEx Forum. The game will be televised on CSS.
