HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss head men's basketball coach Larry Eustachy will take a few days off from the team due to the death of his mother. Helen Eustachy, of San Clemente, Calif., had been ill with cancer for some time. However, her health has gotten increasingly worse. She passed away late last night.
Eustachy, following Tuesday's game with UCF, flew out to California to be with his mother. He returned to Hattiesburg in time to coach the team in last night's 71-54 victory over Tulane before flying back to California.
"I would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers," said Eustachy. "I appreciate all the condolences me and my family have received."
Southern Miss takes to the road for its first conference game away from Reed Green Coliseum. The Golden Eagles will travel to Birmingham, Ala. to face UAB on Wednesday, January 16, for a 7:00 p.m. at Bartow Arena. The game will be broadcast on CSS. It is unknown at this time whether Eustachy will return to coach the game.
