Men's Basketball Closes Non-Conference Slate at Savannah State
Golden Eagles look to snap two game skid

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss will close out its non-conference schedule this Friday. The Golden Eagles will travel to Savannah, Ga. to take on Savannah State at 5:00 p.m. in Tiger Arena.
This will be just the second meeting between the two schools. The teams split a home-and-home series last year, with the Golden Eagles taking the first meeting, 61-45 in Hattiesburg. Savannah State returned the favor a month later, earning a 54-52 decision in Savannah.
Southern Miss is led by guard Jeremy Wise. The sophomore leads the team in scoring with 19.3 points per game. Right behind him is freshman R.L. Horton with 13.8, junior Courtney Beasley with 10.8 and sophomore Sai'Quon Stone at 8.8. Gjio Bain leads Southern Miss on the boards, pulling down 8.4 rebounds a game.
Southern Miss is coming off a 78-58 loss against 22nd-ranked Ole Miss. The Golden Eagles hung with the Rebels for the first 15 minutes, before Ole Miss closed the game on a 14-0 run. R.L. Horton led all scorers with 23 points. Jeremy Wise added 17 in the loss.
Savannah State enters Friday night's game with a 7-12 record. The Tigers are led by guard Chris Linton. The freshman currently leads the team with 8.8 points per game 5.8 rebounds. Freshman guard Anthony Jones is averaging 7.8 points. Lazarius Coleman is also averaging 4.7 rebounds.
Savannah State is coming off a 75-48 defeat at Maryland. The Tigers got a team-high 13 points from Joseph Flegler. SSU also got seven points and six boards from Coleman.
Southern Miss opens conference play when this Tuesday. The Golden Eagles will host UCF on January 8, at 8:00 p.m. at Reed Green Coliseum. The game will be broadcast on CSS.
