HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss used an early run to jump out on St. Catharine, earning a 96-60 victory, Saturday afternoon from Reed Green Coliseum.

With the victory, Southern Miss head coach Donnie Tyndall recorded his 150th career win. The Golden Eagles also move to 9-1, the ninth time in their history and they have won at least nine of their first 10 games.

"I thought we had a good energy level," said Tyndall. "Anytime you can force 29 turnovers, you are playing hard. This was the best we've been in our press. We had better rotations which led to more deflections. Guys were coming up with steals, and hopefully this gave our guys a little confidence heading into the next few weeks."

Daveon Boardingham scored a career-high 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting. Matt Bingaya added a career-high 17 points and six rebounds and Chip Armelin had 13 points and five steals. Michael Craig grabbed a game-high seven rebounds.

Deonte Houston opened the scoring with his first career three-pointer. A minute later, Dominique converted a three-point play to tie the game and following a Southern Miss turnover, Omar Skinner gave St. Catharine its only lead of the game, 5-3, just 1:31 into the game.

Norville Carey then hit two straight baskets and Boardingham hit a jumper to make it a nine-point lead. Over the next four minutes, the teams traded baskets to keep it a four-point lead. After Raymon Austin hit a jumper to make it 20-18, Southern Miss went on an 11-0 run to take a 31-18 lead with 6:47 to play.

William Bailey hit a jumper and Craig connected on a layup. Romeo Lewis then hit one-of-two free throws. But Boardingham hit a pair from the charity stripe and Armelin forced a steal on his way to a layup.

Lewis hit a three-pointer to cut the lead to 13 with 2:41 to play in the first half. But Bingaya hit two free throws and Boardingham slammed home an alley-oop to give Southern Miss its largest lead of the half, 41-24 before heading into the break with a 43-29 lead.

St. Catharine scored five of the first seven points of the second half to cut the deficit to 10 points. But the Golden Eagles went on a 24-4 run to blow the game open. Southern Miss led by as many as 37 points.

Southern Miss shot 58.7-percent (37-of-63) but just 27.8% (5-of-18) from three. St. Catharine was 20-of-46 (43.5%) from the floor and 26.3% (5-of-19) from behind the arc. The Golden Eagles won the rebounding battle, 39-to-25, while also recording 20 assists and 20 steals.

Austin led the Patriots with 13 points. Skinner and Taron Franklin added 10 apiece.

Southern Miss begins a four-game road trip next Wednesday, December 18, when it travels to Bowling Green, Ky., to face Western Kentucky. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT and will be televised by ESPN3.
