Southern Miss Routs Loyola of New Orleans, 75-51
The Golden Eagles out-rebounded the Wolfpack, 42-24.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Junior Jeremy Wise led the way with 23 points as Southern Miss opened the 2008-09 season with an 75-51 victory over Loyola (N.O.) Saturday night at Reed Green Coliseum.
This was the first regular season meeting between the two teams since 1963, with the Wolfpack holding a 25-14 advantage. The teams have met the last two years in exhibition action.
Southern Miss forced 18 turnovers in the contest, turning them into 27 points. The Golden Eagles also dominated down low, outscoring the Wolfpack 26-12.
The Golden Eagles struggled in the first half, shooting 37.9 percent on just 11-of-29 shooting, yet still led 34-22 at the half. But Southern Miss roared out of the locker room in the second half, going on a 25-7 run to take a 28-point lead with 5:30 remaining.
Loyola would get no closer than 21 points the rest of the way.
The Golden Eagles got a defensive effort from everyone on the court, outrebounding LUNO, 42-24. Five players pulled down five or more rebounds. Andre Stephens led the way with seven boards, while Sai'Quon Stone pulled down six. Wise, Courtney Beasley and Craig Craft added five apiece. Beasley also dropped in 11 points
Ryan Brock led the Wolfpack with 14 points, and Torry Beaulieu added 11.
Southern Miss takes on Alabama State next Tuesday, November 18, at 7 p.m. at Reed Green Coliseum before traveling to the Virgin Islands for the Paradise Jam.
