HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Jeremy Wise scored 21 points on 8-12 shooting to lead Southern Miss over Loyola (N.O.), 100-55 in Friday's exhibition at Reed Green Coliseum.
"I like this team, and I was impressed in the way our guys played tonight," said head coach Larry Eustachy. "Our kids made a commitment over the offseason to get bigger stronger. They've done a great job of building themselves up the last eight months, and it shows in their physical play."
Southern Miss shot 52.2% (31-59) from the field, including 64.3% (9-14) from behind the arc.
The Golden Eagles got out to a fast start. With the game tied at three, Southern Miss went on a 25-4 run to lead 28-7 ten minutes into the game.
Southern Miss increased its lead to 46-14 with 4:31 left in the half. However, the Wolfpack closed it on an 8-0 run.
Loyola cut the deficit to 19 early in the second half. However, the Golden Eagles began to pull away. Three minutes in, Wise hit consecutive three-pointers, his third and fourth of the night, to increase the Southern Miss lead to 58-32.
Southern Miss continued to pull away, outscoring Loyola 51-27 in the second half.
The Golden Eagles placed four players in double-figures, led by Wise. Sophomore Sai'Quon Stone scored 18 points, including 14-15 from the line. Stone also led the squad with seven rebounds. Junior Courtney Beasley scored 16 points, and freshman R.L. Horton added ten.
Loyola (N.0.) was led by Luke Zumo with 15 points. Torry Beaulieu added ten points for the Wolfpack.
Southern Miss will close out its exhibition slate next Thursday, November 8, when they take on Lithuania Academy at 7:00 p.m. (CT). Admission to the game is $5.
