Southern Miss head men's basketball coach Doc Sadler has announced the hiring of Tyler Schaul as a graduate assistant on his staff for the upcoming season.
"After working with Coach Sadler at Iowa State and seeing both the kind of person and coach he was, I jumped at the opportunity to work on his staff," Schaul said. "He has put together and incredible group of coaches, players and staff that will bring Southern Miss back to the top. I couldn't be more excited to work with them and be a part of the Golden Eagle community."
Schaul was a manager for the Cyclones' basketball program all four of his undergrad years, including serving as the head manager for the last two. He worked underneath head coaches Fred Hoiberg and Steve Prohm and went to the NCAA Tournament four times, including a pair of Sweet 16s.
Schaul was also responsible for serving as the assistant director for Fred Hoiberg Basketball Camps, coordinating video operations, compiling scouting reports, assisting in student-athlete on-court development and overseeing a staff of 12-14 other student managers, among other duties.
"I worked with Tyler during the 2013-14 season," Sadler said. "He has a great work ethic and attitude, and I really appreciated his commitment to our basketball family."
Iowa State also appeared in the AP Top 25 poll for a school-record 56 consecutive weeks and won two Big 12 titles.
