Nate Loenser enters his sixth season as part of the Southern Miss basketball staff, his second as the Director of Basketball Operations.
Loenser joined the Golden Eagle program as the Coordinator of Basketball Operations for Head Coach Larry Eustachy during the 2003-04 campaign. Then midway through the season, Loenser's role became two fold, when he took on duties as an interim assistant coach. He also has served as the director of the Larry Eustachy basketball camps.
Loenser came to Southern Miss after serving as an assistant varsity boys' basketball coach at Ames High School in Ames, Iowa, during the 2003-04 season. Prior to that, Loenser was the head freshman coach at Ames for one year. He alsos erved on the baseball coaching staff at Ames High School.
Before heading to Ames High School, Loenser was the head varsity basketball coach and the head baseball coach at Northern University High School. He also assisted on the baseball staff at Cedar Falls High School while still attending school at Iowa State.
Loenser was an all-state baseball player at Northern University High School where he lettered four seasons. He also earned three letters in football and golf and another in basketball. Loenser also excelled in the classroom, where he graduated first in his class of 56.
Following graduation from Northern University, he played one season of baseball at Iowa State his senior year and continued his education there, graduating in May 2002 with a bachelor's in exercise and sports sciences. He is a native of Cedar Falls, Iowa.
