HATTIESBURG, Miss. - A three-run 10th inning lifted the Black over the Gold team in an 8-7 victory here Sunday afternoon to conclude fall practice for Southern Miss baseball at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field.
In the team's annual Black and Gold game, Dillon Day collected a two-run single in the top of the 10th and the Black added another tally on a wild pitch as Southern Miss coach Scott Berry had runners placed on every base with one out.
The Gold plated two runs in the bottom of the extra frame, but the Black held on to the victory.
Chase Fowler had four hits to lead the Black squad, including an RBI single in the top of the ninth to tie the game at 5-5 apiece after his team led for most of the contest.
The Gold rallied to take their only lead of the day with three runs in the bottom of the eighth on a run-scoring single from Isaac Rodriguez and sacrifice flies from Bradley Roney and Austin Roussel to give them a 5-4 advantage.
Taylor Nunez picked up the victory for the Black team, while Breck Kline notched the save. Roney suffered the loss for the Gold.
The Gold squad had won the Southern Miss Baseball Breast Cancer Awareness World Series earlier in the week 3-1 in the best-of-5-game series.
