Gold Withstands Late Rally to Win World Series

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Blake Brown and Chase Fowler combined for seven hits and each added run-scoring singles in a pivotal seventh inning to lead the Black squad to a 5-4 game three victory over the Gold here Sunday afternoon at Pete Taylor Park.

Brown went 4-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs, while Fowler knocked in three runs on three hits as the Black team got its first win of the series.

Down 4-3 in the seventh, Breck Kline led off the inning with a walk. After a sacrifice, Brown drove in the tying run and Fowler knocked in the winning run two batters later to extend the series to the fourth game, which is slated to take place Tuesday at 3:15 p.m.

The Gold squad scored all of its runs by notching at least one tally in each of the first three innings. Mason Robbins, who finished the day with a a 3-for-6 day and three RBI, started things with an opposite field home run to left in the first to give the Gold an early 1-0 advantage.

Isaac Rodriguez added a sacrifice fly in the second and Robbins then added an RBI double in the third, while Rodriguez completed the Gold scoring with an run-scoring single later in the frame.

The Black, though, matched the Gold with solo runs of its own in the two opening innings. Fowler tallied an RBI single in the first and then Brown added an RBI triple in the second. Fowler plated a run in the fourth with a triple of his own to cut the gap to 4-3. The score stayed that way until the Black rallied for the game's final two runs.

Black reliever Daniel Wineski allowed just two hits over the final five innings and walked two while fanning one to garner the victory. Cameron Giannini, the fourth of five Gold pitchers, gave up two runs on three hits with a walk to suffer the loss.
