It's that time of the year again. Fall practice is here. We finally get to come together on the diamond as a team to work towards becoming contenders for the 2013 season. We have gone through four straight weeks of 4-on-1's (4 players instructed by 1 coach) and we have been anxious to spike up and start team practice.
Practice began on Sunday and since that day the intensity has been high. Everyone has brought it all while we have gone through basic practice to get ready for fall intra-squad games. I have been extremely pleased with how well the new guys have taken it all. Our coaching staff has challenged us with a lot of new material, but give or take a few mistakes here and there, the new guys have responded very well.
Last year, people gave us "slack" for being young and inexperienced, but we never asked for that and we never leaned on that as a crutch. We simply did not perform last year and that is the reason we didn't make a regional. We had the talent and we knew what we had to do; yet, we fell short.
This year will be different. We have no excuses. We have seven returning starters in the field as well as our weekend rotation back with Andrew Pierce and Jake Drehoff, who are expected to set the tone on the mound. We have all the tools to be successful this year and we are more than excited to start competing against each other to battle it out for spots during the fall.
We will intra-squad scrimmage every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday afternoon at The Pete. We would love for the fans to come out and see what we are working with this fall and to welcome all of the new Golden Eagles for the 2013 season. Practice starts at 2:30 every day, so come out and enjoy the weather and watch some baseball!
One Team. One Mission. Omaha.
