HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Matt Durst, a Southern Miss baseball signee for the 2014 season, was named to the Valley Baseball League first team at catcher this week.
Durst, from Whitehouse, Texas, who played for Northeast Texas Community College this past season, batted .310 with six doubles, two triples and four home runs with 29 runs batted in for the Charles Town Cannons, which finished 23-21 this summer.
The 5-foot-10, 218-lb., junior-to-be was one of eight players to appear on every ballot in a voting done by league administrators and media, earning a spot on the 16-player first team.
