HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss right-handed pitcher Jake Winston, a rising sophomore from Vidalia, La., participated in the Texas Collegiate League All-Star game as a member of the East squad Tuesday night, capping a solid effort to the first half of his summer baseball season.

As a member of the Acadiana Cane Cutters (Youngsville, La.), Winston registered the most victories in the TCL over the first half, posting a 5-1 record in seven starts. Winston compiled a 2.04 earned run average, allowing just 14 runs (10 earned) over 44 innings of work. He surrendered just 34 hits and walked 14, while fanning 33 opposing batters in the TCL heading into the All-Star break. Winston lasted at least five innings in all of his starts and completed at least six innings five times.

The Golden Eagle pitcher appeared in the TCL All-Star game at Driller Park in Kilgore, Texas, in which his East squad triumphed 11-8 in the contest. He was one of six Cane Cutters to make that roster.

During his Southern Miss freshman campaign, Winston saw action in nine games (including three starts) and registered a 2-2 record with a 5.40 ERA. He fanned 14 over 15 innings of work.
