HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss Baseball will host a pair of summer camps in the month of July to close out their summer teaching sessions.
The first camp, to be held July 16-19 for campers in grades 1-8, will cover the fundamentals of baseball including hitting, base running, defensive techniques and primary and secondary positions. Only 100 spots will be available and the camp has been rapidly filling up since its initial announcement.
The second camp, the Summer Showcase Camp, is the second of its kind this summer season as is aimed at showcasing the talents of the next age group, those in grades 9-12. The camp, scheduled for July 21, is focused around campers' abilities to be evaluated by college coaching staffs as well as professional scouts as both groups will be in attendance for the Showcase Camp.
Campers for this event will be evaluated at their individual position, while pitchers who are dual-role players will have the ability to participate at both positions to be evaluated.
At the Showcase Camp, campers will run the 60 yard dash, be evaluated at their defensive position and hit on the field at Pete Taylor Park.
Participants for both camps will receive a camp t-shirt. Cost for the youth camp is $165 per person and will run from 9am-Noon each day with registration beginning at 8:15 a.m. For the Showcase Camp, the cost is $155 and the camp will begin at 1 p.m. with registration starting at Noon.
