HATTIESBURG, Miss. -
Former Southern Miss baseball standout and current Minnesota Twins second baseman Brian Dozier was chosen today to participate in the 20th annual Gillette Home Run Derby, set to take place Monday, July 14, at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minn.
Under American League captain Jose Bautista of the Toronto Blue Jays, Dozier will also participate with defending champion Yeonis Cespedes of the Oakland A's and Adam Jones of the Baltimore Orioles. The National League will be led by captain Troy Tulowitzki of the Colorado Rockies, along with Giancarlo Stanton of the Miami Marlins, Yasiel Puig of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Todd Frazier of the Cincinnati Reds.
There is one unclaimed spot in each league with those announcements set to take place Thursday.
This season, Dozier has led the Twins in home runs with 16, which also ranks tied for 12th in the American League. His run total of 63 is first in the AL, while his 51 walks holds down fifth in the league. Heading into tonight's action, Dozier has played in 86 games and has posted a .234 average to go along with 12 doubles and 39 RBI.
The Gillette Home Run Derby is set to begin at 7 p.m., CT and be telecast by ESPN.
