HATTIESBURG, Miss. -
Rising Southern Miss senior outfielder Connor Barron (Hattiesburg, Miss.) and Golden Eagle signee Taylor Walker (Murfreesboro, Tenn./Jackson State Community College), both members of the Acadiana Cane Cutters this summer, will participate in the Texas Collegiate League All-Star game tonight.
The contest takes place beginning at 7:05 p.m., at Cellucor Field in Bryan, Texas - the home of the Brazos Valley Bombers. The festivities begin at 6 p.m., with the Brazos Bingo TCL Home Run Derby. It is followed by a player autograph session and memorabilia auction at 6:30 p.m.
The league returns to a North-South format this year, with the host Bombers teaming up with the East Texas Pump Jacks and the Texas Marshals to make up the North. The South squad will be comprised of representatives of the Cane Cutters, Victoria Generals, and Woodlands Strykers.
Barron is expected to start in the outfield for the South squad, while Walker will get the starting nod at first base.
Heading into the TCL All-Star game, Barron captured his second league Player of the Week honors on Monday. This summer, Barron is hitting .333 (33x99) with 25 runs, 18 stolen bases, a home run and 8 RBI in 27 games. In the Cane Cutters recent road trip, Barron was 10-for-26 (.385), with four doubles, seven runs, a triple, an RBI and six stolen bases. Golden Eagle teammate, right-handed pitcher Jake Winston, was also named the TCL Pitcher of the Week on Monday, after giving up two runs over eight innings with five strikeouts to notch his second victory of the summer against the Texas Marshalls.
