HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss outfielder/left-handed pitcher Mason Robbins (Leakesville, Miss.) collected another award for an outstanding initial season with the Golden Eagles this past spring as Baseball America named him to the publication's Freshman All-America second team this week.
Robbins, who was voted Conference USA's Freshman of the Year and also a member of the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America squad by Collegiate Baseball, posted a 330 with 11 doubles, 5 triples, 3 homers and 38 RBI. He started the season with an 18-game hitting streak and led the squad in multiple-hit games with 22 and added 10 multi-RBI contests.
He also emerged as the squad's Sunday starter in league play and posted a 1-0 with a 4.01 ERA and struck out 17 batters in 33 2/3 innings.
For his play, Robbins garnered a spot on the Bourne Brave in the prestigious Cape Cod League this summer. Through games of July 4, he currently posted a .302 batting average with three double, a triple and an RBI in 13 games.
Right-handed pitcher and third baseman Bradley Roney (Wetumpka, Ala.) also collected Freshman All-America honors this postseason for the Golden Eagles, earning Louisville Slugger honors as well with Robbins last month.
