Austin Roussel Named to C-USA All-Academic Team

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss sophomore catcher/designated hitter Austin Roussel (Hester, La.) was named to the 13-member Conference USA All-Academic Team, which was released Monday by the league office in Irving, Texas.
A construction engineering major, who has posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.40, Roussel earned the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll three times and won the C-USA Academic Medal once in 2011 during his time at Southern Miss. In addition, he merited Dean's List honors at the University three times and named to the Athletic Director's honor roll twice.
Despite missing 12 games with an injured hand, Roussel compiled .337 (29-for-86) with three doubles, a triple, a home run and 14 RBI, through the 2013 regular season, as he has appeared in 32 games, including 24 starts mostly at the designated hitter spot.
At one point during the year, Roussel reached base in eight-straight plate appearances and has posted six multiple-hit games (as three, 2-hit game, two, 3-hit and one, 4-hit contest). Roussel leads the team in on baseball percentage with a .464.
Joining Roussel on the C-USA All-Academic team were Drew Reynolds of East Carolina, Caleb Barker and Daniel Poncedeleon of Houston, Ethan Gross, Tucker Tubbs, Sam Moll and Zach Willis from Memphis, Brandon Boudreaux and Bowen Woodson of Tulane, Ryan Prinzing and Tyler Mims of UAB and Parker Webster from UCF.
The Golden Eagles have had 13 honorees for this team since its inception during the 2007 season and have had at least one student-athlete on each year's team.
