HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss baseball team closes out the home portion of its 2013 schedule when they entertain in-state foe Ole Miss Tuesday in a 6 p.m., contest at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field.
This will be the last non-conference affair for the Golden Eagles (26-23) as they entertain a nationally ranked Rebel squad that comes into the contest with a 35-17 mark.
The Golden Eagles won the earlier season meeting between the clubs, 2-1, at Trustmark Park in Pearl, as Andrew Furr delivered a ninth-inning, pinch-hit RBI single which proved to be the game winner. Southern Miss has now won four of the last five games over the Rebels including a 4-3, 10-inning victory the last time the two teams met in Hattiesburg on March 30, 2011.
A school-record crowd of 5,689 witnessed that game at Pete Taylor Park and the athletics department is pushing to see that number bettered in its final home game of the campaign on Tuesday.
For this game, the first 500 fans to the game will receive a free rally towel courtesy of Elite Screen Printing (200 N. 40th Ave., Suite 70, Hattiesburg, MS 39401/601-450-1261).
In addition, a hash tag has been created for this game - #6KatThePete - and fans which tweet this hash tag will have chances to win prizes, including a throwback USM baseball jersey, a Golden Eagle prize fan pack, Southern Miss t-shirts, Southern Miss lanyards, Southern Miss spirit bands and Southern Miss sunglasses.
