HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss baseball team returns home this weekend to play host to Conference USA newcomer Louisiana Tech at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field.

Game times are set for Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 4 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m. All three games can be heard on the Southern Miss IMG Sports Network.

It will be Military Appreciation Weekend at The Pete with armed forces personnel receiving $5 admission with their government issued ID. In addition, there will be fireworks following the game on Friday, a special presentation to our service men and women prior to the game on Saturday and kids will be able to run the bases following the Sunday contest.

The Golden Eagles (21-17 overall, 10-5 C-USA) currently sit in a three-way tie for second place in the league standings along with UTSA and UAB, just a few percentage points behind leader Rice. The team goes after its sixth-straight series victory to start the 2014 league schedule, taking two of three games in each of its first five C-USA series.

Southern Miss renews its rivalry with the Bulldogs (10-24, 4-14) for the first time since the 2010 campaign in a series that dates back to 1922. The two schools have played each other only 27 times in their respective histories with the Golden Eagles holding a 14-12-1 advantage. This will be the first time the two schools will meet in a Conference USA series.

Heading into this weekend's set, Southern Miss has been led offensively by sophomore Tim Lynch (Jupiter, Fla.), who has hit safely in the last 10 games and leads the club in batting average at .304. Junior Matt Durst (Whitehouse, Texas) is next at .290, followed by freshman Dylan Burdeaux(West Monroe, La.), who has hit safely in his last eight games and sports a .262 hitting mark.

The Golden Eagles will reverse the order of their first two weekend starting pitchers this week as senior right-hander Conor Fiskis set to get the call in the opener against the Bulldogs on Friday. Fisk has posted a 3-1 record in 2014 with a 2.74 earned run average.

On Saturday, junior right-hander Christian Talley(Diamondhead, Miss.) takes the mound, having posted a 2-2 mark to go along with a 2.47 ERA. The Golden Eagles are undecided on their Sunday starting pitcher.

The Bulldogs will counter with three right-handed pitchers this weekend. Junior Austin Greer is slated to get the nod in the opener. Greer has not recorded a decision this season, while collecting a 2.60 ERA in 17 1/3 innings of work. He has made seven appearance, including five starts, for Louisiana Tech.

Senior Richie Navari takes the mound in the Saturday contest for the visitors, having put together a 4-3 record with a 1.95 ERA, and freshman Braden Bristo will start on Sunday for the Bulldogs, having posted a 1-0 record with a 2.11 ERA.

Following the Louisiana Tech series, the Golden Eagles return to the road Tuesday, April, 22, to face nationally ranked Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Game time is set for 6:05 p.m.
