HATTIESBURG, Miss. -
The Southern Miss baseball team continues its stretch of playing eight games away from home Tuesday night when they entertain Mississippi State in a 6:30 p.m., contest at Trustmark Park in Pearl.
This is the first of two games the Golden Eagles will play at the home of the Class AA Mississippi Braves, an affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. Southern Miss will also play Ole Miss, Tuesday, April 12, at 6:30 p.m., and the 2011 Conference USA Baseball Championship is set for there, May 25-29.
Tickets for dugout level ($15), field level ($10) and berm ($8) seating are still available through the Mississippi Braves stadium ticket office (888-272-8374).
Southern Miss has enjoyed much success at Trustmark Park since its first game there on April 4, 2006, when they defeated Ole Miss, 13-6. This will be the 10th contest Southern Miss will have played there and they currently hold a 7-2 record at the facility.
Coming off their 4-0 week which included a home win over the Rebels and a three-game sweep at UCF, the Golden Eagles climbed in all five major baseball polls, jumping to No. 14 in Collegiate Baseball, No. 17 in the USA Today/Coaches, No. 18 in Baseball America, No. 19 in Perfect Game and No. 23 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Poll.
Southern Miss (22-5, 5-1 C-USA) is riding a five-game winning streak and has won 14 of its last 16 contests.
The Golden Eagles play a Mississippi State team that has posted a 19-9, but had its five-game overall and four-game SEC winning streak snapped last weekend in Athens, Ga., with Georgia claiming closely-contested 4-1, 4-3 and 4-1 decisions.
This will be the lone meeting between the Golden Eagles and Bulldogs this season as
the club's split a pair of contests last season - USM winning 14-3 in Pearl (May 5) and MSU capturing a 16-9 contest in Hattiesburg (May 18). MSU leads the overall series 73-37.
Following the Mississippi State game, the Golden Eagles travel to league foe Memphis this weekend for a three-game set.
