Baseball Set to Entertain ULM Tuesday Night

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss baseball team completes a string of playing seven of eight games at home Tuesday when they entertain Louisiana-Monroe in a non-conference tilt at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
The Golden Eagles (14-10 overall, 2-1 C-USA) hold a first-place tie in league play with Rice, UCF and UAB, who all won two of three games in their league-opening series last weekend. Southern Miss defeated Houston in two of three games, outscoring the visiting Cougars 30-12 in the series.
Junior Blake Brown has carried a hot bat as of late, tallying a triple and three home runs last week to hold a .329 batting average to go along with team highs of six home runs and 29 RBI. He was awarded the C-USA Hitter of the Week for the second time in 2012 earlier on Monday.
Despite having his 18-game hitting streak snapped on Friday, freshman Mason Robbins continues to lead the Golden Eagles in hitting with a .411 batting average. Robbins has hit safely in 19 of 22 games.
Freshman Connor Barron continues to play solid offensively having put together a .357 batting mark over his first 20 games with four doubles and 12 RBI.
Both Ashley Graeter and Isaac Rodriguez have seen their averages rise over the last few games as Graeter, the senior from Poplarville, Miss., is now at .304 with a homer and 13 RBI, while Rodriguez has raised his mark to .300.
Junior Dillon Day, who missed five games with a leg injury, returned to action over the weekend and has posted a .304 average.
The Golden Eagles will send sophomore righthander Boomer Scarborough to the mound against the Warhawks (13-11). The Pass Christian, Miss., native will be making his sixth start of the season and has collected a 1-0 record with a 1.48 earned run average. ULM will counter with southpaw Randy Zeigler (2-4, 2.82 ERA).
Fellow USM hurler Andrew Pierce, a junior righty from Stringer, Miss., was named the league's Co-Pitcher of the Week for his 15-strikeout, seven-inning shutout performance against Houston last Friday night.
Following the ULM contest, the Golden Eagles next go on the road to Houston to face Rice in a three-game C-USA weekend series.
