HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss baseball team returns to action Tuesday when they entertain No. 30 Tulane at MGM Park in Biloxi, Miss., in a 7:05 p.m., contest.
The Golden Eagles (16-5) opened their Conference USA season last weekend, winning two of three games at Marshall. It was the fourth-straight series league victory dating back to last season, while the team now has won 12 of its last 13 regular-season conference games.
Southern Miss returns to MGM Park for the second time this season, having dropped a 4-2 decision to South Alabama earlier this month.
The Green Wave enter the contest having earned a spot in the Collegiate Baseball Top 30, after winning two of three games at Texas over the weekend. Tulane holds a 13-7 record, capturing five of the last seven games.
Graduate transfer Jake Sandlin, who earned the C-USA Co-Hitter of the Week honor Monday, leads four different players in the Golden Eagle lineup who have posted a .300 or better batting average with at least 70 at bats.
Sandlin, who has started all 21 games in centerfield, holds a .385 hitting mark with a homer and 13 RBI, while senior first baseman Tim Lynch ranks second at .373 with team-bests of six home runs and 22 RBI.
Fellow senior, shortstop Nick Dawson, posts a .370 batting mark with a team-high six doubles and 17 RBI, while junior rightfielder Dylan Burdeaux, who has homered in three of the last four games, sports a .318 hitting mark with five homers and 15 RBI.
The pitching matchup for the contest pits Golden Eagle junior right-hander Houston Case (0-0, 5.40), who makes his first start for Southern Miss, against Tulane redshirt sophomore J.P. France (0-0, 4.11 ERA).
Following the Tulane contest, Southern Miss returns home to open a three-game C-USA series with UTSA, Thursday-Saturday. Game times are 6 p.m., on both Thursday and Friday and at 11 a.m., on Saturday.
