HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss freshman right-hand pitcher Todd McInnis was named the Conference USA Co-Pitcher of the Week as announced by the conference office this morning. East Carolina's T.J. Hose was also named co-pitcher of the week.
This marks a school-record third-straight week that a Golden Eagle pitcher has been named pitcher of the week. Ryan Belanger received the honor on Feb. 25 for his performance against Georgia Southern in the Wiregrass Classic on Feb. 23, and David Clark was selected for the honor last week for his complete-game shutout against Louisiana-Lafayette.
McInnis, a true freshman, carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning in a 5-0 win against No. 13 Alabama on March 6, earning his third win in his third collegiate start. In eight innings pitched, he allowed just one single that came with two outs in the eighth. McInnis struck out six and walked four, never putting more than one base runner on an inning, and was lifted after throwing 124 pitches.
Hose had his best pitching performance of his career Friday night against No. 7 Cal State Fullerton, setting the tone for the Pirates three-game sweep of the Titans. He picked up his third consecutive win in a 6-1 victory, scattering three hits over seven innings. He allowed one run while striking out six batters, four of them looking in seven innings of work. Hose faced 25 batters allowing two runners to reach second base, one coming on a solo home run in the fifth inning, while keeping the Titans hitters in check with a .143 average.
