HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss and Mississippi State meet for the only time this season in baseball, Tuesday, at Trustmark Park in Pearl. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.

Southern Miss holds the distinction of being the home team for this year's contest as the game can be heard on the Southern Miss IMG Sports Network with its flagship station 94.3, WKZW-FM, airing the game in the Hattiesburg/Laurel area.

The Golden Eagles (7-8) enter the game having lost two of three contests to Louisiana-Lafayette at home over the weekend. The Bulldogs (17-2) looks to start a new streak after dropping the final two games of their series at home to Central Arkansas after beginning the season with 17-straight victories.

Sophomore lefthander Mason Robbins is expected to get the call for the Golden Eagles as he has posted a 1-1 record with a 3.18 earned run average. The Bulldogs have senior lefty Luis Pollorena (3-0, 1.88 ERA) slated to counter Robbins on the mound.

Offensively, the Golden Eagles have five players hitting over .300, including senior catcher Chase Fowler who is at a team-best .395 with 10 RBI, while freshman Tim Lynch - who had an 11-game hitting streak snapped over the weekend - ranks second at .392 with four doubles, a triple and a team-high tying 11 RBI.

Sophomore catcher Austin Roussel holds a .368 batting mark with four RBI, while senior second baseman Isaac Rodriguez boasts a .304 mark with a team-best six doubles and nine RBI, and Robbins, who is at .302 with four doubles, a triple, a homer and 11 RBI. Senior Blake Brown, who currently is hitting .275, leads the Golden Eagles with a current team-best hitting streak of nine games.

The Golden Eagles have played 19 times at Trustmark Park, the home of the Double-A Mississippi Braves, and posted an 11-8 record all-time in the facility.

Following the Mississippi State contest, Southern Miss returns home to face Central Arkansas in a three-game set. Game times are 6 p.m., on Friday and at 1 p.m., on both Saturday and Sunday.
