HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss baseball team completes a four-game road swing this weekend when they travel to play at Missouri in a three-game series at Simmons Field at Taylor Stadium.
Game times for the set are 6 p.m., Friday, 2 p.m., Saturday and 12 noon on Sunday. All three game can be heard on the Southern Miss IMG Sports Network with flagship station, 94.3, WKZW-FM, carrying all the action in the Hattiesburg/Laurel area with the pregame show starting 15 minutes prior to the first pitch each day.
The Golden Eagles (6-7) look to rebound from its opening game of this swing, dropping a 4-2 decision to Florida in Pensacola Tuesday night.
This will be the second time Southern Miss has met Missouri this season, with the other taking place in the season opener back on Feb. 15. The Golden Eagles were not originally scheduled to face the Tigers, but bad weather that plagued much of the country that week did not enable either team to play their previously intended opponents. Instead, the two schools met in Lake Charles, La., as part of the Lake Area Classic and the Tigers rallied late to earn a 4-2 decision.
That victory snapped a six-game Southern Miss winning streak over the Tigers, but the Golden Eagles still lead in the overall series 8-4, including a three-game sweep of Mizzou in Hattiesburg last season, dating back to 1986.
The squad makes its second trip to Columbia, having taken two of three from the Tigers during its initial trip in 1993, and the first appearance in the Show Me State since sweeping then C-USA member Saint Louis in a three-game set in 2004.
Junior Mason Robbins (Leakesville, Miss.) continues to lead the Golden Eagles this season offensively. The right fielder has posted a .309 batting average with team highs of six doubles and 12 runs batted in. He is followed by freshman Dylan Burdeaux (West Monroe, La.) at .294 and junior shortstop Michael Sterling (Meridian, Miss.) at .288.
The Golden Eagles are expected to throw the trio of Conor Fisk, A.J. Glasshof and Cameron Giannini against Mizzou, respectively, this weekend. Fisk, a senior right-hander from Brown Deer, Wis., and current C-USA Co-Pitcher of the Week, has posted a 1-0 record with a 2.08 ERA in two starts and has fanned 24 and walked just four in 13 innings of work.
Glasshof, a senior left-handed hurler from Sugar Land, Texas, holds a 1-0 mark with a 3.86 ERA in making his third start of the season and first weekend start, while Giannini, a senior from Danville, Va., expects to take start a game on the mound for Southen Miss for only the fourth start of his career, posting a 0-1 record with a 2.04 ERA.
The Tigers (4-6) will counter three right-handed pitchers in the series, starting with junior Brett Graves (1-1, 0.92) on Friday, junior John Miles (1-0, 7.43 ERA) on Saturday and senior Eric Anderson (0-1, 3.00 ERA) in the finale on Sunday.
Following the Mizzou series, the Golden Eagles will return home for a pair of midweek games, taking on New Orleans, Tuesday, March 11, and South Alabama, Wednesday, March 12. Both games have 6 p.m., start times and will take place at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field.
