Clark Named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week
March 5, 2007
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss redshirt junior right-hand pitcher David Clark was named the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week as announced by the conference office this morning.
This marks the second week that a Golden Eagle pitcher has been named pitcher of the week. Ryan Belanger received the honor last week for his performance against Georgia Southern in the Wiregrass Classic on Feb. 23.
Clark pitched the first complete-game and the first shutout of his career in a 1-0 win against No. 29 Louisiana-Lafayette on Sunday. He struck out seven and allowed just one runner to reach second base and that came on a wild pitch. Clark allowed just four hits, all singles, one in the fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth innings and allowed a walk in the first and second innings only. He retired 12 of his first 15 batters and sat down the final six batters that he faced.
The Golden Eagles, ranked No. 27 by Collegiate Baseball, will face No. 22 Alabama at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Miss., on Tuesday, March 6, at 7 p.m., before traveling to Baton Rouge, La., for a three-game weekend series at LSU on Friday-Sunday, March 9-11. Friday's game starts at 6:30 p.m., Saturday's at 2 p.m. and Sunday's at 1 p.m. For ticket information, call the Southern Miss Ticket Office at 1-800-844-TICk or 601-266-5418.
