Game time is set for 6:30 p.m., and can be heard on the Southern Miss IMG Sports Network. The game will also be televised by Cox Sports Television. The Golden Eagles (6-6) are fresh off a 4-1 week that includes a series win over Troy and a victory over then No. 21 Alabama. During that stretch, Southern Miss won a pair of one-run games and got solid pitching from its staff that put together a 3.00 ERA for the week along with 48 strikeouts and just 19 walks.
Tuesday's game marks the fourth meeting between the two schools in baseball with Southern Miss holding a 3-0 advantage in the series. The Golden Eagles won the first-ever meeting on April 18, 1990, in a 3-1 decision at the Diamond Club Classic at Stanky Field in Mobile, Ala. The only other two meetings came at the 2009 NCAA Super Regional in Gainesville in which Southern Miss won 9-7 and 7-6 in the best-of-three series to advance to their only trip to the College World Series.
For Southern Miss this season, freshman Dylan Burdeaux (West Monroe, La.), despite missing two games last week with a hand injury, leads the Golden Eagles in hitting through the first 12 games with a .323 batting average and a team-high seven-game hitting streak. Burdeaux has two doubles, a triple and six RBI to his credit during his first year with the squad.
He is closely followed by junior Mason Robbins (Leakesville, Miss.), who is hitting .314 and has a five-game hitting streak of his own. Robbins has a team-best five doubles to go along with a home run and a team-best tying 11 runs batted in along with junior Matt Durst (Whitehouse, Texas).
Southern Miss expects to throw junior right-handed pitcher Christian Talley (Diamondhead, Miss.) against the Gators (6-6). Talley holds a 0-1 record with a 2.61 ERA. In his last outing, Talley limited Alabama to an unearned run on seven hits with a walk and five strikeouts over 7 1/3 innings of work.
The Gators will counter with sophomore southpaw Danny Young, who has posted a 1-0 record with a 4.50 ERA for UF.
Following the UF contest, the Golden Eagles finish the road swing this weekend when they travel to Columbia, Mo., to face Southeastern Conference foe Missouri in a three-game set.
