'Catching up with Fowler' Blog
Follow Golden Eagle senior Chase Fowler of Cumming, Ga., as he and his baseball teammates go through individual workouts and then fall practice as they work on their quest to get back to the NCAA Tournament. Chase will write share his thoughts on Southern Miss baseball and other happenings each Thursday during the fall semester.
The time has come. It is officially baseball season. The Pete is looking better than ever and your Golden Eagles are ready to spike up and get on the field!
It has been an extremely long fall and spring as we have been preparing for the season. In my four years here at Southern Miss, this season has no doubt been the most anticipated of them all. First pitch cannot come soon enough!
This team is ready. We have put in the work day-in and day-out to get back to where this program belongs: postseason play. We have set goals and we are ready to meet them. We didn't want to set goals that we thought we could maybe meet or hope to meet. We set goals that we expect to meet.
We set goals that the Southern Miss community expects us to meet - C-USA Championship, Regional, Super Regional and Omaha. That is where the bar has been set. These goals aren't going to be met just because we say it every day. No, this team has put in the work. If you followed my blog in the fall, you remember me saying this is the hardest working team I have ever been a part of. Everyone gets it. Nobody is satisfied. We are on a mission.
Tomorrow at 4 p.m., we will open up against Mizzou. It marks the first time we have ever opened up with an SEC opponent at home. We are ready to play a quality opponent who reached the NCAA Regionals last spring. Our coaching staff has done a great job preparing us and our players have all bought into the game plan. I am so proud of this team and the work they have put in!
I am here to personally invite you to the Pete this weekend to help cheer us on! We need your support and we will do whatever it takes to put on show! As we all know, the community has taken a huge blow with the tornado that took place here last Sunday afternoon. We have the entire community in our thoughts and prayers and we are ready to play for you all! Come on out tomorrow night and "Pump the Pete"!
One Team. One Mission. OMAHA.
