Southern Miss Baseball Ranks at No. 23 in NCBWA Preseason Poll

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association announced its preseason rankings Tuesday afternoon and Southern Miss earned its third nod by a major poll with a No. 23 ranking.

The NCBWA continued its tradition of NCAA Division 1 polls for the 21st time this season. The 2018 poll voters come from among 35 college baseball writers and related media persons from throughout the nation.

The Golden Eagles finished the 2017 season with a 50-16 record and secured the Conference USA regular season trophy after posting a 25-5 conference record. Southern Miss continued its successful season all the way to the conference tournament final but ultimately fell to Rice.

The Golden Eagles made it to its second straight postseason and finished the 2017 season at No. 14 and hosted a regional for the second time in school history.

Southern Miss opens its 2018 season on Feb. 16 in the Mississippi Farm Bureau Classic hosting Mississippi State for a three-game series at Pete Taylor Park.
