HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss baseball team will hold its fifth annual fan day Sat., Feb., 8, beginning at 10 a.m., at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field, which will include a free kids camp, autograph session and an intra-squad scrimmage.
"It is hard to believe that this is the fifth year that we have done this event and it just seems to get better and better each season," said Southern Miss baseball coach Scott Berry. "Our players enjoy interacting with the youngster and teaching the game of baseball and it also is a great chance for the members of our program to interact with our fans prior to the opening of the season."
The day starts with a 10 a.m., free baseball clinic for kids ages 4 through 13, with instruction provided by Southern Miss players and coaches. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m., for the free camp. At 11:30 a.m., fans will have the opportunity to meet the entire 2014 squad and coaching staff during an autograph session with the first chance to get a 2014 baseball schedule poster, followed by a 2 p.m., nine-inning, intra-squad scrimmage.
The Golden Eagles open the 2014 campaign, Friday, Feb. 14, against Stony Brook. Game time is set for 4 p.m., at Pete Taylor Park.
