Southern Miss Head Coach Scott Berry
On playing one of the better games all season to end the year...

"I always say that there's one team that ends the season on a win, and that's the one that wins the national championship. I was very proud of our guys to come out and not lay down knowing that we really had nothing to play for but pride. In the team meeting I said leave it all on the field, and when it's over, shake hands. We wanted to go out with some momentum for next year and I think we played a very good baseball game."

On getting good production from a lot of first-year guys...

"I was extremely proud of a guy like Chase Horn who came in after struggling this year and held Rice in a situation where we've hurt ourselves in the middle innings. I was also extremely proud of Cody Livingston coming in and doing what he did after his outing the other day."

On Blake Brown working the count and walking in the game-winning run...

"He fouled off a lot of those sliders that (Tyler) Duffey was throwing that he usually gets people out on. We've seen it happen time-and-time again this year when people have great at-bats. We saw it in the Memphis game the other day with Hinds off (Andrew) Pierce. You wear them down not only physically, but mentally. I think that's what you saw there too."

Freshman LHP Cody Livingston :
On his previous outing vs. Memphis on Wednesday when he didn't record an out...

"Last time out I didn't get a lot of time in the bullpen and I tried to get ready in a hurry. I wasn't completely warm, came out a little stiff and couldn't find the strike zone. I was throwing for about two innings before I came in tonight and I was really warm and filled the zone up."

On the play 3B Bradley Roney made in the 8th inning...

"I told him I didn't think he was going to make it and I was going to have to get it and just hold it. But that was a hell of a play he made and I was shocked. "

On showing something as a team despite the game not meaning anything...

"We wanted to end on a positive note and get one last win against a big team such as Rice. But we just gave it our all and left it out on the field."

Rice Head Coach Wayne Graham
Opening Statement...

"I thought we had a very disappointing offensive effort. We were very non-competitive with the bat. If things don't change, we are in deep trouble."

On the mindset heading into the NCAA Tournament...

"I'm not sure we will host, we'll just have to see. They don't have to let us host because our RPI is going to go up to about 20. We are really going to have to grit our teeth."

On the at-bat by Blake Brown of USM that proved to be the game-winning RBI...

"He had a far superior at-bat than any that we had tonight. He won the game for them. He fought off several pitches and drew a walk. He fought his behind off with nothing on the line except pride. I thought it was a great effort, and I thought that their team gave a great effort. They showed a love of the game of baseball by winning."
