Recap |  Box Score

Head Coach Scott Berry
Opening Statement...
"I'm very proud of the way we came out and played. I thought we played with a tremendous focus. One inning we had a little defensive letdown when they came back and tied it but our guys just kept grinding it out against a very good Houston team that just did not quit all the way to the last out."

On the team's defensive performance...
"Luckily the three errors came on the one inning on the one play and we were able to just kinda flush that and make some great defensive plays after that. The inning with the missed bunt and the pickoff where Fowler came up and Creel being able to pick it and throw the guy out at third was a huge momentum killer for them but a great defensive effort on our part. I can't say enough about our pitching staff. Drehoff, other than the two runs...he sat there and gave us a great performance, Wineski came in and got a big out for us, and Glasshof coming in and finishing it off. I couldn't be more proud of our bullpen."

On the team's clutch hitting...
"That's what we've been able to do here as of late, we've been able to cash in on some two out hits particularly and cross some runs over, and that was our nemesis all year long. We've missed on those opportunities but hopefully we've learned from our mistakes and we're playing better baseball and being able to get them in now."

Travis Creel
Opening Statement...
"Right now we're playing pretty good baseball. If I can clean it up defensively, we'll be playing really good. But we put ourselves in the championship game which was a goal at the start of the year. I guess we'll find out who we play tomorrow and I like our chances."

On the eighth inning defensive stand...
"I credit my teammates. They could have yelled at me and gotten mad at me. I know I was yelling at myself, but they all picked me up and told me to keep going. It gave me some confidence and I don't know how, but I still had some confidence left and it paid off."

Jake Drehoff
On the defensive effort...
"Getting four double plays was huge. Our defense made some huge plays all day. We made two errors on the same play but other than that defense came up huge today."

On mindset...
"We knew today's game was the biggest game all season for us. We came out to win today and know we punched our ticket for the championship and we are looking forward to it."

On starting such an important game...
"I love it. That's what you come to school for. That's why I came to Southern Miss; big games like that."
