HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Sophomore Mason Robbins (Leakesville, Miss.) collected three hits and drove in four runs to lead Southern Miss to a 9-1 non-conference baseball victory over SIUE here Sunday afternoon at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field.

The Golden Eagles (26-23) had a three-game losing streak snapped with the win. Southern Miss finishes the home portion of its schedule Tuesday when they entertain in-state Ole Miss in a 6 p.m., contest.

The home squad scored in six different innings and plated at least one run in each of the first four frames to jump out to the lead.

"We were able to score runs early, even if it was one-run here or one-run there," said Southern Miss coach Scott Berry. "That took the pressure off of our hitters and they were able to do what they do."

Southern Miss collected 13 hits in the contest and including two each from both Travis Creel and Isaac Rodriguez. For Rodriguez, he has now hit safely in 15-straight games which is the longest by a Golden Eagle this season.

It was Robbins, though, that drove in four of the team's first five runs, including an RBI single in both the first and third innings and a two-run double in the fourth. Andrew Furr and Rodriguez also added sacrifice flies in the second and sixth innings, respectively, to give USM a 6-0 advantage.

Four Golden Eagle pitchers limited SIUE (16-31) to six hits including just two by Jake Drehoff over five innings as he did not allow a run on a walk with three strikeouts to get the victory and improve to 3-5. SIUE scored their lone run off of Nick Johnson in the seventh on an RBI single by Denton Reed.

Jay Myrick and Paxton King each added a scoreless inning of relief down the stretch.

The Golden Eagles increased their advantage with three more runs in the same frame that the Cougars scored as Breck Kline plated two runs with a single and Rodriguez added his second sacrifice fly to end the scoring.

SIUE starter Sam Hopkins allowed five runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks with a strikeout to suffer the loss and fall to 1-6.
