PEARL, Miss. - Three Ole Miss pitchers limited Southern Miss to four hits as the Rebels defeated the Golden Eagles 3-0 here Tuesday night at Trustmark Park.
The Golden Eagles (25-19) lost for the second time at Trustmark Park this season and returns to action Wednesday when they entertain Grambling State in its final non-conference game of the campaign. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
Josh Laxor limited Southern Miss to four hits over seven innings with a walk and five strikeouts to get the victory and improve to 4-0. Aaron Greenwood and R.J. Hively each threw scoreless innings to complete the shutout. Greenwood struck out the side and Hively fanned two in the ninth to get his second save of the campaign.
Issac Rodriguez and Austin Roussel each had two hits to lead Southern Miss in the contest.
Dillon Day, in his first appearance as a pitcher for the Golden Eagles in 2012, allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and one walk with three strikeouts to suffer the loss and fall to 0-1.
Ole Miss (29-16) got two runs in the second on run-scoring singles from Will Allen and John Gatlin and then completed the scoring with a sacrifice fly from Auston Bousfield in the fourth.
The loss snapped a three-game winning streak against the Rebels.
