METAIRIE, La. - Andrew Stevenson had four hits and drove in a pair of runs to lead nationally ranked LSU to a 13-5 victory over Southern Miss here Tuesday night at Zephyr Field in the Wally Pontiff Baseball Classic.

The Golden Eagles (21-17) gave up a season-high tying 13 runs and 15 hits as the Tigers scored in each of the first four innings to pull away in the contest. After allowing three runs on four hits in the first inning, the Golden Eagles tied the score with three runs of their own in the second.

Matt Durst led off the frame with a single and then Bradley Roney reached on an error before Austin Roussel hit a three-run blast to rightfield, his second of the year.

After the Tigers answered with two runs in the second, Southern Miss tied the game again in the next inning on a RBI single by Tim Lynch and a bases-loaded walk to Roussel.

Roussel drove in a career-high with four runs.

The Tigers, though, added another run in the third and four more in the fourth, before tallying three additional runs in the seventh and the Eagles could not respond the rest of the night.

Christian Ibarra led the Tigers with four RBI, while Mark Laird, Alex Bregman added two runs each for LSU (28-9-1).

Henri Faucheux, the third of seven Tiger pitchers, earned the victory by retiring all four batters he faced to improve to 3-0 on the year. USM reliever Jake Winston surrendered five runs on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts over 1 1/3 innings to suffer the loss and fall to 3-3.

The Golden Eagles return home this weekend when they play host to Louisiana Tech in a three-game C-USA series. The set opens Friday night with a 6 p.m., contest at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field. There will be a fireworks show following the game.
