Southern Miss Baseball Falls to Tulane 12-7 at MGM Park Tuesday Night

BILOXI, Miss. - Richard Carthon and Jake Willsey each drove in three runs to lead No. 30 Tulane over Southern Miss 12-7 at MGM Park Tuesday night.

The Golden Eagles (16-6) lost for the second time this season in Biloxi, after falling to South Alabama earlier this month, 4-2.

Junior Chuckie Robinson led the Golden Eagles with a career-high four hits as Southern Miss registered 14 in the contest. It marked the fifth-straight game that Southern Miss collected double-digit hits.

The Green Wave scored in five different innings, including jumping out to a 3-0 lead on the benefit of only one hit in the third inning. The visitors added three more runs in sixth, solo runs in both the seventh and eighth, before breaking open the game in the ninth with four more tallies.

Tulane totaled 10 hits to go along with nine walks and three hit batsmen against eight Golden Eagle pitchers.

Southern Miss starter Houston Case, in his first career start, suffered the defeat by allowing three runs on one hit with two walks and two strikeouts.

Junior Taylor Braley added three hits for Southern Miss including a solo home run, his sixth of the year, while Dylan Burdeaux added a pair of RBI on one hit. Junior Jake Sandlin notched a pair of singles to increase his current team-best hitting streak to nine games.

Tulane, which improved to 14-7 on the year, got 5 2/3 innings from starter J.P. France, who allowed four runs on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts to earn the victory and improve to 1-0.

Southern Miss returns to action with a three-game Conference USA series starting Thursday at Pete Taylor games. There will be 6 p.m., single contests on both Thursday and Friday before the set concludes, Saturday with a game beginning at 11 a.m.
