MONROE, La. -
Southern Miss scored two runs in the tenth inning to defeat Louisiana Monroe, 4-2 Wednesday evening at Warhawk Field in Monroe, La.
Collin Cargill (1-0) picked up his first win of the season working the final 2.2 innings allowing only two hits and striking out four, including working out of a bases loaded jam when he entered in the eighth inning and again to finish off the game in the tenth inning.
"This is always a tough place to play, Monroe always plays us very well," head coach Corky Palmer said. "Cargill was tremendous tonight he had a couple of tough breaks but still did not let Monroe in the game. We played better from about the seventh inning on. We are proud to get out of here with a win tonight."
For the ninth consecutive game this season the Golden Eagles reached double digit hits with 11 in the game tonight. Kameron Brunty and Brian Dozier both extended their hitting streaks to nine on the season tonight as well.
Travis Graves led the offensive attack tonight with three hits including two runs scored and a RBI. Brunty, Taylor Walker and Corey Stevens each had a pair of hits as well. Walker also added in two RBI.
ULM (6-2) struck for the games first run in the top of the first as Jordy Porche hit a solo home run to left field for a 1-0 lead.
Southern Miss (8-1) finally cracked the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning as Joey Archer drew a walk and Travis Graves ripped an RBI double down the left field line to score Archer and tie the game at one. Graves' double also ended the day for ULM starting pitcher Justin Anderson after 4.1 innings.

Taylor Walker singled through the hole on the left side of the infield allowing Graves to score from second on a close play at the plate for a 2-1 Golden Eagle lead.
In the bottom of the sixth inning ULM tied the game on a RBI double by Matt Collins scoring Ben Soignier who tripled to end the day for JR Ballinger. ULM `s Matt Laird laced a ball up the middle that Dozier made a highlight reel diving stop to retire Laird and keep Collins from scoring and keep the game tied at two.
Southern Miss starting pitcher JR Ballinger had another solid outing working 5.2 innings allowing two runs on five hits while striking out two.
The Golden Eagles took the lead in the tenth inning as Joey Archer doubled down the left field line and Travis Graves singled off the pitcher to put runners at first and third. Pinch runner Nick Smith scored the first run of the inning on a RBI groundout by Tyler Koelling.
Taylor Walker delivered a RBI single to score Graves from second and make the score 4-2.
ULM would not go quietly in the tenth as they loaded the bases with no one out but Cargill was able to work through the jam with a strikeout and a game-end double play.
The Golden Eagles will return to action Friday evening at Pete Taylor Park as they host No. 7 Cal State Fullerton, first pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. Todd McInnis (2-0, 0.66 ERA) will get the start for Southern Miss.
