HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Louisiana-Lafayette scored four times over a two-inning stretch late in the game, ruining theDylo season debut of Southern Miss senior right-handed pitcher Conor Fisk to defeat the Golden Eagles 6-2 here Friday night at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field in the first of a three-game series.

The Ragin' Cajuns (5-1) won for the fifth straight time as they pounded out 11 hits in the contest, while Southern Miss fell to 2-3 on the season.

The two teams will complete the series with a day-night doubleheader Saturday, playing at 1 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. The series' final game was pushed up due to expected bad weather in the Hattiesburg area on Sunday. Tickets for the originally scheduled Sunday contest will be honored for the second game of the doubleheader Saturday evening.

After giving up a pair of runs in the top of the first on an RBI double to Jace Conrad and a run-scoring fielder's choice by Tyler Girouard, Fisk settled down to produce a career-high tying 11 strikeouts, giving up just two hits after the first. Fisk went six innings and allowed two runs on four hits with one walk.

The Golden Eagles helped keep Fisk in the contest as Michael Sterling knocked in the club's first run with a single in the third. Sterling plated Nick Dawson, who walked and went to second on a balk.

USM's Dylan Burdeaux, who paced the Golden Eagles with two of their five hits, doubled home Matt Durst in the sixth to tie the score at 2-2. Durst had doubled himself with one out in the frame

The Cajuns then took the lead for good in the seventh. After a double by Nick Thurman and a bunt single by Blake Trahan, Conrad drove in his second run of the affair with a sacrifice fly to left off of reliever Nick Johnson to go up 3-2.

UL added three more runs in the eighth on a RBI single by Evan Powell and a two-run double by Nick Thurman to complete the scoring.

Johnson (0-1) allowed four runs on five hits with a pair of strikeouts to suffer the loss over an 1 2/3.

Cajun starter Austin Robichaux (1-1) earned the victory by scattering two runs on four hits over seven innings with four walks and four strikeouts to even his season record.
