Brown replaces Todd McInnis, who left to take a teaching and coaching position in Brandon, Miss.
"I am very blessed and grateful to be a part of The University of Southern Mississippi baseball family," Brown said. "Coaches Berry, Caillet, and Federico are well respected in the college baseball ranks and I am fortunate to have the opportunity to work not only with these great coaches, but also among other members that surround this University."
Originally from Elberton, Ga., Brown comes to Southern Miss after serving as a graduate assistant coach for the past two seasons at his alma mater, the University of West Alabama.
A member of the UWA baseball team from 2007-2011, Brown played catcher for the Tigers in which he was part of two NCAA Division II Regional teams (2008,2009) and two Gulf South Conference regular season championship squads (2007, 2009). In addition, Brown was named to the 2011 All-Gulf South Conference Honor Roll.
Brown graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Science in Mathematics Secondary Education from UWA. While working as a graduate assistant coach, he earned a Masters of Arts in Teaching Specialized in Physical Education in 2013.
In addition to his coaching at UWA, Brown spent a pair of summers working in the New England Collegiate League (2011, 2012) and this past summer in the Coastal Plain League (2013). He was selected to coach in both the 2011 and 2012 NECBL All-Star Games. Brown has coached 19 players that have gone on to sign professional baseball contracts.
