Cross Country Set to Compete in NCAA South Regional Championship
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The No. 11 regionally-ranked Southern Miss Cross Country team travels to Tuscaloosa, Ala., Friday, where University of Alabama is hosting the 2017 NCAA South Regional Championships.
The Golden Eagles placed 11th last year but is coming off a historic, second place finish at the Conference Championship and are looking to capitalize.
“We are heading into this meet with a lot of momentum,” coach Aaron Kindt said. “I’m really happy with how this group has come back after an emotional high at C-USA a couple weeks ago. We’ve had a great final stretch of fall training.”
The 6k race will take place November 10 at 9:00 am. on the Harry Pritchett Running Park prior to the men’s 10K taking place at 10 am.
Southern Miss is traveling a top group comprised of All-Conference honorees and the freshman of the Year (Kate Mattox). Regen McGee, Courtney Filliben and Savannah McMillon all finished in the top 25 at the conference, meet garnering all-league honors. Sophomores Monika Gebarzewska, Natalya Dekleva-Hall, and Emma Kate Holdbrooks, who all finished in the top group will also be in attendance.
“The seven we are competing this weekend are all trending in the right direction, having that kind of depth late in the year is a testament to how hard this group work over the summer to prepare themselves for this part of the year,” said Kindt. “I’m looking forward to watching this group compete one more time before heading into track season.”
