Cross Country Set For Conference Championship
Hosted by Southern Miss at the Choctaw Trails in Clinton, Miss.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The No. 15 south regionally-ranked Southern Miss Cross Country team travels to Clinton, Miss. this weekend to compete in the 2017 Conference USA Cross Country Championships.
Southern Miss is hosting the Championship races for the second time in five years. This year the meet will take place at the Choctaw Trails in Clinton. The 5k race will take place October 28 at 10 a.m. behind the men’s 8K, beginning at 9 a.m.
“We’ve had a chance to see some nationally ranked competition at Ole Miss, Notre Dame and Alabama,” cross country coach Aaron Kindt said. “Each presented a host of different challenges for this young group and I am hoping that the experience from these meets will give up a different perspective heading into championship season.”
Led by freshman Kate Mattox, the Golden Eagles have enjoyed a successful regular season that produced a seventh place team finish at Notre Dame, 11th at the Crimson Class and seven lifetime bests in cross country.
“I know the atmosphere will be an exciting one,” continued Kindt. “We don’t race close to home often, a chance to race with family, friends, and Golden Eagle fans on the sidelines and in a championship setting will be a special one. I know we are looking forward to seeing a lot of Black and Gold out on the course Saturday morning.”
Fans can follow the live results here. Once the meet has concluded all results and highlights will be uploaded to the Conference USA website.
