HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The University of Southern Mississippi will serve as the host institution for the 2012 Conference USA Cross Country Championship. The event will take place at Pine Belt National Golf Course in Moselle, Miss., and is set for Oct. 29.

The women will kick things off with a 5K at 9 a.m., and the men's 8K will follow at 10 a.m. with the awards presentation set for 11 a.m. Admission is free.

This marks the first time since 2002 that Southern Miss has served as the host school for the cross country championships, when the Golden Eagles hosted the event at the B. O. Van Hook Golf Course.

East Carolina, Houston, Marshall, Memphis, Rice, Tulane, Tulsa, and UTEP each have men's and women's teams. SMU, Southern Miss, UAB and UCF have women's teams only.

"I believe this is a good opportunity for Southern Miss," head cross country coach Kevin Ondrasek said. "We are excited to bring the championship to Hattiesburg. This gives us the opportunity to showcase one of the best conferences. It also gives our athletes a chance to run in front of the home crowd."

"This course itself will have great footing and it will be a fair course. It's also going to be hilly. Hattiesburg actually has some pretty good hills, but fair."
