Cross Country C-USA Preseason Poll Released
HATTIESBURG, Miss.—The Southern Miss Women’s Cross Country Team was selected to finish fourth in the Conference USA Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
The Golden Eagles, coming off a school record finish at the 2016 NCAA South Region Championship, finishing 11th out of 30 teams. The team also finished fourth in C-USA standings, tying a school record. The 2017 team features six returnees, including senior Courtney Filliben and sophomore Theresa Harto who earned a spot on C-USA All-Third Team. Newcomer Kate Mattox is the lone addition to the 2017 squad. Mattox was named the 2015-16 Gatorade State Runner of the Year and the 2016-17 Mississippi Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year.
“I’m excited about this group. We have a lot of youth, but they are dedicated, hardworking squad,” said coach Aaron Kindt. “This team is all on the same page in regards to accountability and striving to be the best they can be. I’m really looking forward to watching these kids develop and compete these next few months.”
The Golden Eagles open their season at the Mississippi College Opener taking place on Sept. 1, in Clinton, Miss. before heading to Oxford on Sept. 15 for the Rebel Cross Country Invitational.
Southern Miss will play host to the Conference USA Championships Oct. 28 in Clinton, Miss.
