HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss track and field teams got two student-athletes named to the 2014 Conference USA All-Academic Team voted onto the teams by the league's sports information directors for the sport.
Honorees must hold a minimum 3.2 grade point average and have used a year of eligibility. Nine finished the academic year with a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA.
Richard Collingwood and Felice Johnson were among the 24 honorees. Twenty of the 24 boast academic marks better than a 3.8 average.
Graduate student Richard Collingwood makes a return appearance on the all-academic squad after earning the honor in 2012. He holds the school record in the discus with a throw of 53.35m (175-0) and earned a spot at the NCAA Preliminaries. Collingwood received the Outstanding Individual GPA male award for all student-athletes at Southern Miss.
Johnson is making her second all-academic as she earn all-academic honors in cross country. Johnson has a perfect 4.0 and has competed in five meets this spring. She ranked in the top 20 in the league in the 1,500 meters. She also competed in the 5,000 meters and recorded a time of 19:08.40 at the Golden Eagle Classic.
